According to a National Association of Home Builders survey, buyers are looking for more useable living spaces. Options buyers want most are:
- Kitchens fully, partially or visually open to the family room
- Walk-in pantries, island work areas, special use storage
- Younger households prefer their washer and dryer to be located near the bedroom. Older households prefer them near the kitchen
- More space in the master bedroom at the expense of the master bath
- Nine-foot ceilings
